Provide more levels of "undo"
I am used to more levels of "undo" in the work I typically do with other software and discovered that there is only one level of "undo" in Proclaim. More please! :)
Undo should work more globally (not requiring specific focus) plus it will navigate you back to the item or tab the undo occurred on, letting you walk back larger sets of changes

The different context sensitive areas of undo are very confusing. It's probably just better to have a global undo as the default, and then use the context menu for the context undo. Also, it's never clear what changes cannot be undone so you need to show the name for each action so you know what will happen if you click undo/redo.

Lots of confusion came from the fact that our 'Reset customizations' button looked like an undo button. We have since changed the icon to be more like a reset button. Which could explain why it seemed that undo 'wiped out my slide'. Since it was actually the 'wipe out my slide' button :)
Proclaim has had a fairly robust undo system since before any of these recent comments, but they are keyboard focus sensitive and so they sometimes don't work as you might expect.
Essentially, to undo service item additions, deletions, and movement, right click on an item and hit undo/redo in the context menu.
To undo text changes, right click in the text field and hit undo/redo.
To undo fonts, backgrounds changes, positioning, etc, right click in the edit canvas and click undo.
This article explains this a little:

I agree, undo should work in each area of the proclaim program typical to how other programs have undo. i have used undo only to have it wipe out my slide, because the way Undo does not work in all areas of the program

It's actually pretty nebulous what undo is undoing. I've had it undo changes to previous slides, not simply undoing the text I'm currently editing.

Yes, I agree with this post. And I wrote the following on another similar post:Trying to undo or or step backward in Proclaim doesn't work. I'm used to using Keynote and Photoshop, both of which allow me to undo or step backward as many steps as I need to. In Proclaim, if I make a mistake or change something as simple as choosing a background for a particular slide or a series of slides, I am unable to reverse it. Command Z or Undo, which is usually greyed out, don't work. And the 'U' shaped arrow on the upper right of the program seems to be useless, as well. Very frustrating, to the point I don't even like to use the program, despite all of it's good qualities. Please fix this issue so I (all of us) can make slides and change them efficiently. God speed.
